Successful summit attempt by Yannick and Philippe

Written by Anna: During the day I have been following Yannick and Philippe’s approach towards the summit, step by step, via the Spot Messenger that you can find on the Khan-Tengri expedition page. They needed 10 hours to reach the summit from Camp 3, adding an elevation gain of 1250 m, and had multiple rappels during the descent of almost 5 hours. They had perfect weather, for once, exactly as I had told them via the satellite phone. Clear sky with magnificent views! They are very tired but feel well. Tomorrow they will try to climb down all the way to base camp with the heavy packs to avoid the announced heavy snow falls that are upcoming.

So – what shall they do now? They were supposed to do the summit in five days! Instead of resting in base camp after the acclimatization, they speeded up the mountain in no time. My guess is that they will try to reach yet another summit if weather permits.

Congratulations to you both and especially to Yannick that broke his altitude record, and in style!
