Cime de Guilie
Second day of ski touring this weekend. This time Anna and I went to the Boréon to climb the Cime de Guilié (2999 m). Like in Gialorgues, the snow has melted below 1700 m and it’s frozen above, so very good conditions to go up either in ski touring or snowshoes. Perfect weather where we […]
Bec du Chateau
I went back to Gialorgues to ski touring and to climb the Northeast Couloir of Bec du Chateau (400m, 45° average, AD-).
Ice climbing: Cascade Gialorgues
We climbed the left ice fall (Cascade) of Gialorgues but the conditions were far from good: the ice fall is not well formed, rather thin and fragile with running water underneath. The temperature of -7 degrees was too warm too. There was a lot of soft snow from the river to the bottom of the […]
Croix de Carle
I went to St Dalmas le Selvage (1496 m) in the Tinee valley to ski La Croix de Carlé (2529 m), the Crest of La Tour (2596 m) and the Vallon of La Tour.
Trail: around Mouton Anou
Mouton d’Anou (1078 m) is a weird name for a hill but anyway there is a nice trail around it starting in St Jeannet.
Climbing: Masotherapie at Aiglun
We went to Aiglun to climb “Masotherapie pour tendons maniaques”, a 270 meters routes graded EX (extremely hard) with 10 pitches up to 8a. It’s a bit “old style” many pitches of vertical wall with tiny crimps. Pitches: 7a+, 6c+, 6c+, 7a, 6c, 7b, 7c, 6a+, 6b, 8a. Philippe in Masotherapie (© A. Gatta) Description: […]
Trail: Vence – La Cagne
Nice short Trail perfect for a half day. The trail starts at the village of Vence (325m), goes to the Baou des Blancs, GR 51, La Cagne river and goes back to Vence via Col de Vence (962m).
Climbing: Le Palais
We climbed at Le Palais, close to La Turbie but after the heavy rain of last week most routes were wet. Routes: 32 routes from 6c+ to 8c. Down from La mort de César, 8a (© P. Gatta)
11th Trail de Gorbio
Today we were 80 runners to take the start of 11th Trail de Gorbio, a nice trail running race of 42 km and 2900 meters of ascent near Menton. Distance: 42 km, ascent: 2900m / descent: 2900m, 5h21, I ranked 21st. Winter view from the top of Cime du Baudon (© P. Gatta)
Trail: St Martin Vesubie – Cime de la Palu – Prals
Great trail running in Mercantour National Park. This trail starts at the village of St Martin Vesubie and follows the crests of Cime de la Palu (2132m)
Trail: Plan du var – Mont Ferion – Utelle – Mont Vial
This difficult and long trail running offers outstanding views over the French Riviera. It starts with the ascent of Mont Ferion (1412m) and Col de l’Autaret (1308m), then goes down in the Vesubie valley, goes up to Utelle, down to Tinee Valley before traversing Mont Vial (1541m) from North to South.
Trail: Villars sur Var – Pointe des 4 Cantons
Today we tried a new trail starting at Villars sur Var (426m). I wanted to make a loop going to Pointe de l’Adret (1305m), the Pointe des 4 Cantons (1804) and go off-trail to the Pointe des Chavanette (1753m).
